The idea for Mizo Toys began on a quiet afternoon in Channapatna, a small town in Karnataka known for world-famous wooden toys.
Our founder, Amit, was visiting the Channapatna Crafts Park with his wife and their young daughter. As they walked from one manufacturing facility to another, they were mesmerized how skillfully wood is turned and shaped, to make different toys. They saw a group of school children on school exhibition. The excitement in there eyes were palpable, their hands were reaching out to touch the beautifully painted wooden toys. The children were fascinated not just by the toys, but by watching skilled artisans shape, color, and bring them to life.
There was something magical about that moment.
Each toy was crafted with care, patience, and generations of skill. Yet, Amit couldn’t help but notice something else. While these toys carried so much love and tradition, they struggled to compete with mass-produced plastic toys that were cheaper, louder, and filled with features.
And that’s when a simple question surfaced.
What if these wooden toys could sing?
What if they could tell stories?
What followed was a journey filled with curiosity, experiments, and conversations that no one had imagined before. The idea of placing a compact electronic module inside a handcrafted wooden toy was completely new to the artisans. Together, they explored how technology could quietly sit inside wood—without changing the soul of the toy.
When the first prototype was ready, it was brought home.
Their daughter’s reaction said everything. She listened her favorite rhymes. She became inquisitive. She showed the toy to everyone around her. The wooden toy had become more than an object—it had become a companion.
That moment made the decision clear.
Mizo Toys was born from that experience—bringing together artisanal craftsmanship and thoughtful technology, so that traditional wooden toys could engage children in new, meaningful ways.
Not louder.
Not faster.
Just more magical.
